LTR (Logic Trunked Radio )

LTR is a type of trunking logic first introduced into the market in 1979 by the E. F. Johnson Company of Waseca, Minnesota.  this system soon became the de facto standard in trunked radios systems in the United States.

For the newcomer to the 2-way industry this type of system basically is a form of mobile relay utilizing multiple radio channels, whereas the mobile units assigned to this system are always using a channel that is not busy or assigned to a user or active conversation. This is accomplished by mobile radio logic interpreting the commands of channel controllers connected by a high speed data buss at the repeater site.

In the dynamics of operation the subscriber (user) gets the illusion that they are the only person on the radio as they do not hear anyone else on this system and they for the most part always have a clear access to the system.

Users or Subscribers may have private codes in order to provide security between operators or departments etc. This agility of signaling is very useful in the management of fleets where mobile to mobile conversation is not required or desired. If mobile to mobile is desired it of course is available.

In most cases the LTR system is billed to the users in a flat rate methodology. Air time billing is also an option where high air time use is required. In this case the LTR system is capable of recording the used air time of any one particular code or subscriber, and chargeable in time increments.

Transcrypt / E. F. Johnson, Kenwood, Standard, Securicor/Midland, Vertex, Uniden and Motorola  are some who are producing equipment compatible to LTR
